Practical information for Turkey

Responsible for the hunt
Gönye Hunting Activities, Mr. Murat Akkoyunlu. Tel: +90 332 353 5953 – mobil +90 532 612 8747

Accommodation
The accommodation during the hunt is in a hotel or lodge situated close to the hunting area, and after the hunt the hunter might sometimes be accommodated in a hotel in one of the cities near the Black Sea or in Ankara/Istanbul. Full board or half board is included in the price.

If nothing else has been agreed, our clients will be accommodated in twin-bedded rooms. For accom-modation in single rooms there is a supplement of Euro 35.- per night. If you book individually, and if you are alone in the district, you will automatically be charged for a single room, even if you have not booked one. If, during your stay, you are being given a single room, and if you sign the hunting report (protocol) to that effect, you will be charged the supplement, irrespective of the reason for your obtaining such single room.

BREAK OF STAY:
If, for any reason, clients cancel part of their booked stay, NO refund will be made for unused services.

HUNTING
A condition for a successful hunting trip is that equipment, fitness, weapon and a fairly good marksmanship are OK. It is also of importance to have a theoretical knowledge of the hunt you are participating in. Last but not least, it is too late to learn how to shoot when for instance you are on your point on a driven hunt and the wild boar passing the track is at full speed. The rifle must be working 100%. They must be checked, the rifle must be carefully targeted and the scope correctly mounted.

Please also remember that for the night hunting for wild boar night vision equipment or a good scope is of great importance.

Guidelines for the shooting
You normally hunt the whole day, 3-4 drives per day, with participation of beaters and dogs.

Tips
Tipping is normal in Turkey. Normal amount is EUR 100-200 per hunter. This amount is given to the person in charge of the hunt and he will then distribute an amount to each one of the persons involved in the hunt.

Turkish hunting papers
Our partner Mr. Murat Akkoyunlu takes care of all necessary licences and papers. Please bring your passport, EU-weapon permit, hunting licence/firearms certificate etc.

Import and export of weapon
Please approach the customs authorities on departure and show your EU-weapon permit and firearms certificate. Remember: Bring weapon, ammunition and permits to the customs authorities at once. This will spare you for a lot of trouble and time.

Im- and export of weapon in Turkey
In Istanbul/Ankara you will be met by one of Gönye Hunting’s representatives, who will help you through customs with your rifle. Gönye Hunting will have the original Turkish weapon permit.
Ammunition:
It’s not allowed to bring more than 50 rounds in to Turkey.

Weapon
We recommend you to bring a rifle of minimum calibre 7 mm and around 50 rounds of ammunition. Shooting range is 100-150 meter.
Weapons should be carried in a solid hard case. Ammunition and bolt must not be carried in the rifle case, but in another luggage, which must be checked in (therefore not in the hand luggage).

PLEASE NOTE; it is no longer legal to transport ammunition in original packing. All ammunition must be kept in a lockable metal ammunition box to be checked in separately with own baggage tag.
For daily use while in the field, we would suggest that you bring a soft rifle case to protect the rifle. Please bring your EU weapon passport if you are an EU citizen.

Please note that airlines are entitled to charge a fee for handling your weapon (The fee vary from airline to airline, approx. € 40 per weapon), as well as charging for overweight when with travelling with weapon.

IMPORTANT!!
In certain airports an extra inspection in regards to weapon and ammunition has been imposed, which can result in passengers having to point out the luggage tag belonging to their weapon and which to the ammunition. This will most likely take place at the gate in transit airports, for example when connecting from one flight to another, in Frankfurt f. inst. Therefore it is VERY IMPORTANT that passengers - at check-in - are aware of which luggage tag belongs to the weapon and which to the ammunition. In case passengers are not able to do so, the consequence could be that the luggage will simply not be loaded on to the aircraft.

Rules for hand luggage, which will be taken away by the security in the airports
After the incident in New York on September 11th 2001 most airports all over the world have tightened the safety precautions. This means that a far bigger amount of effects now will be taken away from the passengers in the security check. As an example we can mention knives, scissors, nail file, nail clipper, razor blades, point or sharp objects as well as anything else that can stick, prick or cut. Effects like these are considered weapons and will, for the sake of the safety on board, be confiscated, if they are not placed in the checked in luggage.

If the passenger comes to the security check with one or more of the above effects, the passenger can go back to the check-in desk, if there is time, and check in the object in a small "security" box. However this possibility only exists in a few airports. In other cases the passenger will have the objects taken away, and the objects will be confiscated and destroyed. It will not be possible for the passenger to get the object back. However the passenger can ask for a confirmation that the object is confiscated in the airport and destroyed. This receipt may be used for the passengers own insurance company. The airline companies cannot meet eventual demands for compensation of the objects, which are confiscated in the security checks in the airports.

It is therefore of the greatest importance that you place your “dangerous” objects in the luggage that is checked in.

Trophy fees
Please note that all trophy fees except trophy fees that are included in a fixed price package must be settled directly with Gönye Hunting Activities in Turkey after the hunt. You can either bring EUR in cash or you can pay by credit card. Alternatively you can pay a trophy deposit for the wanted additional trophies to Diana Hunting Tours before departure, and then just settle a possible difference after the the hunt.

Trophies
Please note that you cannot export skins and trophies of bezoar and skins for wild boar from Turkey immediately after the hunt. Wild boar tusks will normally be cleaned, boiled and treated with carbon dioxide and with veterinary documents and can therefore be brought along on departure.

As for other trophies and skins the procedure in Turkey is very bureaucratic and therefor also fairls before deparu When the Turkish vetenary authorities have approved the trophies for export and when Gönye Hunting have received payment for trophy preparation and shipment, the trophies will be sent to the address of your choice.

Please note that expenses for trophy preparation and –shipment MUST be paid directly to Gönye Hunting Activities after the hunt and before departure. The costs are approx.. €750-950.

Search for shot (wounded) game
During a mountain hunt it some times happens that a wounded/shot bezoar ends up in an area, which is inaccessible for the hunting guide. In case a helicopter or mountaineers are sent for in order to locate/find the shot game, the hunter must cover all costs for this.

Insurance
Please note that our travel and cancellation insurance also includes hunting liability. Since a hunting liability insurance is required for travel in Europe, you must have such an insurance. We assume that you have a valid hunting licence including hunting liability, which is a condition for you being covered by our insurance.

First time travellers
When hunting abroad, you represent the hunters of your country. The people you meet, will naturally judge the standard of hunters from your country, from the way you behave. Fortunately, DIANA hunters are generally welcome, and we would very much like this to continue, so we urge you to maintain calm and dignity in any crisis or disagreement.

Therefore, it is vital that you contact us immediately, if problems arise, in order that we may correct any misunderstanding on the spot. It is only possible for us to react to complaints, brought to our attention immediately.

Emergency telephone
Diana has established an emergency telephone service, whereby our clients can reach us 24 hours a day - 7 days a week - and talk to a competent member of our staff. We would like to stress that this service is intended for emergency calls only, where contact with Diana or a next of kind is vital. Please feel free to use this line, when absolutely necessary, but please also avoid any unnecessary calls - ++45 30 26 25 40.

Return home:
We always appreciate hearing from you after your return home. It is of the utmost importance for us to know, what happens "out there". This is the only way we can develop and possibly improve our hunting tours. Therefore - whether you wish to praise or criticize - please let us hear from you! We hope, the above answers all the questions you naturally have before the trip. Should you need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
