Practical information for Scotland

Check-in & Flights
You will have a baggage allowance of 20 kg (business class usually has 30-40 kg) per person plus 1 item of hand luggage of max. weight 5 kg - unless stated otherwise in your itinerary. Please be aware that airline companies have the right to make a handling charge if you are travelling with weapons. This handling charge (circa. €40-70 per weapon per flight) varies from airline to airline. REMEMBER, sharp items such as knives, scissors etc. must not be carried in your hand luggage but must be packed in your check-in luggage.

Passport
As the United Kingdom is not a member of EU, everyone travelling to the UK must be in possession of a valid passport.

Weapons
To be able to hunt in the United Kingdom with your own weapons, you must be in possession of a so-called ”Visitors Firearms Certificate”. We will make the application for you, but to do so, you will need to send us a copy of your EU-weapons passport together with a copies of your hunting license and weapon license. Please be aware that the British Police can take up to 6-8 weeks to process the documentation. Thus, please send us the documents in good time. We must have received your documents no later than 12 weeks prior to departure.

When transporting weapons, they must be carried in a robust rifle case. Ammunition and the rifle-bolt may not be carried in the rifle case but must be packed separately in your check-in luggage (not in your hand baggage). In most places, it is possible to hire rifles with good quality telescopic sights, if you would like to avoid the trouble of bringing your own weapon. The min. caliber you can use in Scotland is .243

Ammunition must be transported in a hard plastic box that can be locked.

Alternatively, we recommend that you rent a rifle from the hunting guide. The rental cost is normally between £30-50 per person/day (ammunition included). When renting a rifle, you will normally start with a test-shot before you go hunting.

Binoculars
Remember to bring a pair of binoculars! Magnification of 8x and 10x is ideal.

Currency
The local currency is the British Pound, 1 pound is worth around €1,15 (01.01.2022) Visa, Mastercard and most other international credit cards can be used in hotels and shops, although not to settle trophy fees, gratuities etc. These must be paid in cash after the hunt.

Travel Documents
Flight-/ferry tickets and your itinerary will be sent to you circa. 10 days before departure.

Time Zone
Scotland uses GMT, which is one hour behind Europe.

Electricity
230 V. Please be aware that the plugs in Great Britain are different than those used in Europe, so you should bring along or buy an adaptor.

Shopping
The range of goods available, especially in large towns, is wide and varied. Prices are generally lower than in Denmark, due to the weakness of the £.

Photographs
We are always very happy to receive photographs from our customers as we often like to use them in our marketing material. We would very much like to receive any photos as soon as possible after you return home from your hunt. If one or more of your photos are used by us, you will have DKK500 credited to your account at Limpopo. The money can be used to help pay for your next tour with us.

Misunderstandings/emergency telephone
If, against all expectations, any misunderstandings arise, which you do not feel that you can solve yourself, you can contact us during our office hours (Monday-Friday 9:00-16:00) on tel. (+45) 62202540. However, our emergency mobile number  (+45) 30 26 25 40) is open 24 hours a day. This mobile number is intended for emergency situations, we request that you only use it in such situations, so that those in need of help can receive it.

It is too late to rectify any misunderstandings or mistakes after you have returned home. Therefore, please be aware that it is vital that you notify us immediately if any insurmountable problems occur. We can only proceed with complaints if we have been informed about them.

Representing Your Country
When travelling abroad, you are in some senses representing your fellow countrymen. We hope you will act in such a way that helps to ensure Limpopo Travel’s customers will be welcome in the future.

Arrival Home
We are always happy to hear the latest “news from abroad” after you arrive home. It is very important for us to be able to follow what is happening at our destinations, as this allows us to improve and further develop our tours. Therefore - whether you wish to praise or criticize - we would very much like to hear from you!

Hunting Success
Even though we have formidable hunting districts, professional and well-trained hunting guides, trackers, and skinners; the wind, weather, your hunting skills, and lady luck will always play their part. HUNTING is HUNTING for both good and bad! We recommend that you help to improve your chances by keeping fit and spending time training with your rifle or shotgun.

Equipment/clothing
Generally speaking, we recommend using the same equipment as you would on a regular hunt. With that said, we do recommend that you bring a good set of hunting clothes, preferably warm, water- and windproof, but also practical. It is a good idea to bring a small rucksack, where you can fit your lunch, something to drink, and an extra jacket or sweatshirt.

Concerning footwear, it is important you bring a good pair of hunting boots, they should be waterproof and able to keep your feet dry and warm during the hunt. You will walk a lot during the hunt, where the aim is to get to higher grounds and do some glassing to spot the heard of red deer.

Hunting
WOUNDED AND NOT FOUND GAME = KILLED GAME. Please note that the normal trophy fee applies if you cannot find a wounded animal. Additionally, some places also charge the value of the 'lost' meat when an animal is wounded and not found.

Please be aware that the indovidual hunter is responsible for informing the hunt manager about his wishes regarding trophy preparation/treatment. Generally, it is always a good idea to take an active interest in how your trophy is being treated.

If you have not paid a trophy deposit to Limpopo Travel, all trophy fees MUST be paid directly to the hunt manager BEFORE you return home.

Shipment of trophies home
As something completely new, we offer shipment of trophies from Great Britain in collaboration with an experienced Danish shipping agent, who is responsible for all customs documents, import permits, and veterinary controls. After Brexit, it is no longer possible to take trophies home on the plane or by car in general, as the trophies must go through customs to be declared correctly - if you do not do this, you risk having the trophies confiscated and destroyed.

Gratuities/Tipping
Hunting abroad and tipping have been closely linked for generations. This is a very difficult and sensative area to give advice on, because it is strongly linked to the individual's level of satisfaction. However, as this is a question that we frequently get, here are a couple of rules of thumb. Stalkers should be given a tip of around £50 for each animal shot, a little more if it was a large or unusual animal. You should also leave a small tip when leaving your accommodation.

Hunting Protocol
Towards the end of your visit, each participant takes part in completing a written protocol, which is then signed by all concerned. It is very important that any complaints are included in this protocol, and that we have been informed about these problems beforehand. Otherwise, we will not be able to take the matter further.
