Practical information for France

Passport

Even though France is a member of Schengen, all visitors to France must be in possession  of a valid passport. If one parent is travelling with their children without the other parent, the children must be registered in the travelling parent’s passport or have their own passports. Children of up to 15 years of age may be registered in their parents passport, but children over 15 years of age must have their own passport.

Currency

The local currency is the EURO. Visa, Mastercard and most other international credit cards can be used in hotels and shops, but not for paying trophy fees, tipping etc.. These must be paid in cash after the hunt.

Time difference

France has GMT+1,  the same as most of continental Europe, but one hour ahead of the UK.

Electricity

230 V. European style sockets, remember to bring an adaptor if travelling from the UK.

Binoculars

Remember to bring a pair of binoculars! A magnification of 7 or 8x is ideal, as a magnification of 10x or more has a tendency to blur the image.

HUNTING:

Hunt Organiser:

Julien Saint-Supery, Chemin d’Emperes, 32450 Saramon, Frankrig. Tel. +33 665 172 998

Arrival:

When you arrive at your accommodation please phone your hunting guide to arrange a time to meet. Contact information will be sent together with your final travel documents circa. 10 days before departure.

Guidelines for shooting:

Before the hunt begins, you should inform the gamekeeper of your wishes regarding trophy size. All shooting in the hunting district is at the gamekeepers discretion.

French Hunting Documentaion:

Our partner, Julien Saint-Supery, will arrange all the necessary licenses and other paperwork. Remember to bring your hunting license, weapons permit and EU weapon passport.

EU-Weapon Passport:

All EU-hunters must be in procession of a EU-weapon passport, if they are travelling abroad. If you do not already have one, you must obtain one before departure. Weapon passports are free of charge, are valid for 5 years, and can be obtained  from your local police station.

Hunting Success:

Even though we arrange tours to good hunting districts with skilled guides, factors such as the wind, weather, the skill of the hunter and plain old luck, will always play their part. HUNTING is HUNTING for good and bad!
We recommend that you are physically fit, and spend time training your shooting skills with your rifle or shotgun.

Treatment of your Trophies:

After the hunt your trophies will be delivered to a taxidermist who will be responsible for boiling, cleaning, and bleaching your trophy and shipping the trophies to your home. Price per roe buckEUR 50,-, price per chamois EUR 50,- payable in the hunting district after the hunt.

Weapons

Your rifle must be carried in a solid weapons case during transport. Ammunition and the rifle-bolt may not be carried in the rifle case. The  rifle bolt must be carried  in a separate item of checked-in luggage (not in your hand luggage). PLEASE NOTE: it is no longer legal to transport ammunition in its original packaging. All ammunition must be stored (and transported) in a lockable metal or hard plastic ammunition box, approved for transporting ammunition, and must be checked in separately from your rifle case. Each must have their own baggage tag. At most destinations you can hire a good quality rifle with sights, if you would like to avoid the difficulties of tranveling with your own rifle. If you are a EU-citizen, you must remember your EU-weapon passport.

IMPORTANT!!
Please be aware that at certain airports extra checks regarding transport of weapons and ammunition are carried out. These extra checks involve pointing out which baggage tags belong to your rifle and ammunition cases.

These will typically take place at the gate of your transit airport - for example when changing aircraft in Frankfurt. It is therefore very important to be aware of which baggage tags belong to your rifle and ammunition cases. The consequence of you not knowing this could lead to your baggage not being loaded onto the aircraft.

You should also be aware that airlines have the right to charge a handling fee– as well as excess baggage charges - when you travel with weapons.. This fee (circa. €40 per weapon) varies from airline to airline. It will be charged on both the out-bound and in-bound legs of your journey.
REMEMBER, sharp items such as knives, scissors etc. may not be carried in your hand luggage, but be packed in your check-in luggage.

Hire car:

You should go to the hire company’s desk in the arrivals hall. Follow the signs Car Hire. Here you must present the car voucher we sent you with your travel documents. This car-voucher is a full credit voucher that will cover most standard items. Please reed the terms and conditions for car hire printed on the voucher.

If more than one person will be driving, please inform the hire-company when collecting your vehicle. The supplement for this must be pid directly to the car-hire company.

The car will be delivered with a full tank of fuel, and you must return it with a full tank. If this is not done we will receive an invoice here at Limpopo Travel/DIANA Hunting Tours after your return home, that we will pass on to you. It is important to note that it does pay off to let the hire company fuel the car for you, as it is more expensive than filling it up yourself. - therefore we recommend that you always return your hire car with a full tank.

In the event of damage occurring to your hire car, the car hire company will make a charge to your credit card, however this will be refunded by Auto Escape after you return home.

In addition to the insurance mentioned above, please be aware you will be offered a range of extra insurance when you pick up your hire car. This insurance is optional, but if you do agree to extra insurance we will receive an invoice here at LIMPOPO/DIANA that we will pass on to you on your arrival home.

IMPORTANT: Car hire companies  insist you must be in procession of a valid  credit card to hire a car..

Rifle Hire: This can be arranged in the hunting district and costs EUR 30,- pr. day, which is payable directly to the hunting district.

Equipment/clothing

Generally we recommend the clothing that you use at home in northern Europe. Remember waterproof clothing.

IMPORTANT WHEN HUNTING IN THE MOUNTAINS:

To successfully carry out a mountain hunt it is vitally important that you wear suitable walking boots with good ankle support and a rucksack (without a metal frame).

Hunting

WOUNDED GAME = KILLED GAME. Additionally, when wounding an animal you might be charged for the value of the spoilt meat if the game animal is found later.

Please note it is the hunters responsibility to inform the hunting staff about how you wish for your trophy to be prepared/treated, and generally it is a good idea to take an active interest in how the skinning of your trophy is carried out..

If you haven’t  paid a trophy deposit to  Limpopo Travel, all trophy fees MUST be paid directly to your guide BEFORE you return home.

Gratuities:

Hunting abroad and tipping have, unfortunately, be bound together for generations. It is a very difficult subject to give advice on, as it largely depends on your own satisfaction. But as it is a question we are often asked, here are a couple of rule of thumb. The guide should be given around  EUR 30, - of each animal shot and a little more if it was a big or special animal. You should also leave a small tip at your accommodation.

Photographs

We are always very happy to receive photographs from our customers, which we often use in connection with our website, news-mails, Facebook and other marketing. We like to have your photographs as soon as possible after your return home. If one or more of your photos is used in our catalogue, you will receive a voucher for kr. 500,- which can be used towards your next hunting ture with us.

Misunderstandings/Emergency telephone

If, against all expectations, any misunderstandings or problems arise during your holiday, that you can’t solve yourself, please contact us during office hours (Monday-Friday 9.00-17.00) on tel . (+45) 62 20 25 40 or fax. (+45) 62 20 25 42, or on our mobil number (+45) 30 26 25 40, which is available 24 per day. Our mobile phone number is intended for emergency situations, so we ask you to treat it as such, so that those who need help can recieve it.

It is too late to solve misunderstandings or problems after you return home. Please note it is vitally important to inform us at once so we can help solve them. It is only when this has been done that we will be able to deal with any complaints we recive.

With Best Wishes - DIANA LIMPOPO TRAVEL A/S
