Practical information for England

Check-in & Flights

You will have a baggage allowance of 20 kg (business class has 30 kg) per person plus 1 item of hand luggage, of max. weight 5 kg - unless stated otherwise in your itinerary. Please be aware that airline companies have the right to make a handling charge if you are travelling with weapons. This handling charge (circa. €40 per weapon) varies fro airline to airline. REMEMBER, sharp items such as knives, scissors etc. must not be carried in your hand luggage, but must be packed in your check-in luggage.

Passport

As the United Kingdom is not a member of Schengen, everyone travelling to the UK must be in possession of a valid passport.

Weapons

To be able to hunt in the United Kingdom with your own weapons, you must be in possession of a so-called ”Visitors Firearms Certificate”. We will make the application for you, but to be able to do so you will need to send us your EU-weapons passport (the original) together with a copy of your hunting license. Please be aware that the British Police can take up to 6-8 weeks to processes the documentation, so please send us the documents in good time. We must have received your documents no later than 12 weeks prior to departure.

When transporting weapons they must be carried in a robust rifle case. Ammunition and the rifle-bolt may not be carried in the rifle case, but must be packed separately in your check-in luggage (not in your hand baggage). In most places it is possible to hire rifles with good quality telescopic sights, if you would like to avoid the trouble of bringing your own weapon.  The min. caliber you can use in  England is .243

Ammunition must be transported in a hard plastic box that can be locked. Leaded ammunition must not be brought to the UK.

Currency

The local currency is the British Pound, 1 pound is worth around €1,14 (22.02.2023) Visa, Mastercard and most other international credit cards can be used in hotels and shops, although not to settle trophy fees, gratuities etc. These must be paid in cash after the hunt.

As Great Britain is currently a member of the  EU, it is not possible to purchase duty free goods (cigarettes and spirits ) in the airport.

The range of goods available, especially in large towns, wide and varied. Prices are generally lower than in Denmark, due to the weakness of the £.

It is very important for us to be able to follow what is happening in our destinations, as this allows us to improve and further develop our tours. Therefore - wether you wish to praise or criticise - we would very much like to hear from you!

Hunting Success

Even though we have good hunting districts, professional, well-trained hunting guides, trackers and skinners; the wind, weather, your hunting skills and lady luck will al always play their part. HUNTING is HUNTING for both good and bad! We recommend that you help to improve your chances by keeping fit and spending time training with your rifle or shotgun.

Equipment/clothing

Generally we recommend using the same equipment as you would on a Danish hunt , but remember to bring good boots and waterproof clothing.

Hunting

WOUNDED GAME = KILLED GAME, in that the normal trophy fee is payable if you wound an animal and it is not found. Additionally a few places also make a charge to cover the value of the meat lost when an animal is wounded.

Please be aware that the hunter is responsible for informing the hunt manager about his wishes regarding trophy preparation/treatment. Generally it is always a good idea to take an active interest in how your trophy is being treated.

If you have not paid a trophy deposit to Limpopo Travel, all trophy fees MUST be paid to the hunt manager BEFORE you return home.

Importing Trophies

If your trophy have been fully prepared and boiled, it is possible to take them home after the hunt yourself.

Gratuities/Tipping

Hunting abroad and tipping have unfortunately been closely linked  for generations. This is a very difficult area to give advice on, because it is strongly linked to the individuals level of satisfaction. However , as this is a question we are very frequently asked , here are a couple of rules of thumb. Stalkers should be given a tip of around £20, - for each animal shot, a little more if it was a large or unusual animal. You should also leave a small tip when leaving your accommodation.

Hunting Protocol

At the end of you visit each participant takes part in completing a written protocol which is then signed by all concerned. It is very important that any complaints are included in this protocol, and that we have been informed about these problems during your stay, otherwise we will not be able to take the matter further.
